3D Paper DIY Chess Set Supplies:
- Darice Cardstock Neutrals
- Darice Specialty Cardstock
- Dust Buddy
- Liquid Adhesive
- Silhouette Cameo
Step 1. To begin this DIY paper chess set project, cut out all of your pieces from this template in Black and White cardstock. Due to the thickness of the cardstock, you may need to cut all of the pieces twice. (You will have more pieces than the amount in the image shown below.)
Step 2. Double all of the pieces; this will make them much more sturdy and ensure that they last longer.
Step 3. Assemble the pieces by taking the 2 pieces that form the chess piece and fitting them through the slotted holes in the round base; fold over the tabs. Glue the tabs down to secure and finish with a solid circle on the bottom.
Step 4. The base is also a storage box for the chess pieces. It measures 11 3/4″ x 11 3/4″. You can use this template for the base and this template for the top if you wish and cut both out of a piece of Neutral colored cardstock. To make the box stronger, add a layer of chipboard under the base of the box and on the inside of the cover, as I did in the image below. Next, cover the top of the box in an 11 3/4″ x 11 3/4″ piece of white cardstock and finish by covering the top with 1 1/4″ x 1 1/4″ squares using your Tim Holtz Kraft Core cardstock. You will need 32 of each color for the board. Feel free to add any other embellishments that you’d like to your DIY chess set, and let the games begin!
