Rustic wedding sign supplies:
The weathered look of the wood is accomplished by a layering effect of the stain and white paint. You can stop at any point if you are happy with the way your wedding sign looks. I am going to give you the steps I used to create my signs. Start with the gel stain and coat the front and sides of your wedding sign. Wipe off any excess with a rag or paper towel. Allow to dry.
The use of a “dry brush” method is very helpful in getting the correct look on your signs. Dab a very small amount of paint onto your brush and wipe most of it off on a paper plate or towel. Then swiftly move it over the entire front of your wedding sign. See below for an example of dry brushing once over the stained surface. Allow this to dry before continuing (it dries quickly).
One last time we are going to need that white paint. The edges of our wedding sign are still looking a little new. Use a dry brush and go over all the edges to finish those off. I also touched over the lettering in places with a very dry brush in white paint. Just to add to the aged appearance. You can also finish the back of your wedding sign if desired.
There are tons of steps but it all went really fast when I was making these wedding signs. Do as much or as little distressing as you would like. Have fun with it and create your own DIY rustic wedding signs. Your rustic wedding will not be complete without them.
