Hi friends! I am FREEEEEEEEZING here in the midwest. Just freezing. One of my favorite things to do when I am cold is warm up with a little hot cocoa! My kids love it too! But sometimes it can be a mess to let my little ones make their own hot chocolate. Powder chocolate + spilled milk = sticky mess. Am I right? So today I decided to whip up a batch of DIY hot chocolate on a Stick! This makes hot cocoa time extra fun and less messy too! Win win! Follow along for all the details so you can make your own DIY hot chocolate on a stick! Seriously, can you get any cuter? Or any tastier!? Yum!
These DIY hot chocolate on a stick treats would make a perfect addition to a hot cocoa bar this winter or a great favor or gift!
DIY Hot Chocolate on a Stick Supplies:
- Chocolate Candy Wafers.
- Silicone Mold or Baking Tray.
- Darice Paper Straws.
- Nonpareils Sprinkles (optional).
- Darice Baker’s Twine.
- Microwavable Melting Tray (optional).
I began by filling my melting tray with candy wafers. I believe you can fit about 1/2 a bag in one melting tray. If you do not have a melting tray, simply place your chocolate in a microwave safe dish. Place it in the microwave at 50% power and melt at 20 second intervals, stirring inbetween until it is melted completely. Be careful not to overheat it though.
Once the chocolate is melted, pour it into your silicone molds.
Add sprinkles to the top if desired.
Add a paper straw (cut in half) into each portion.
When the chocolate is hardened, you can easily pop these out of your silicone mold.
Add a bit of baker’s twine to the top of each straw if you like and then these are ready to use!
And aren’t they just so cute! My kids want to eat them directly off the stick. But I make them use them for hot chocolate instead!
To make hot cocoa, simply heat up 1 cup of milk and stir the hot cocoa on a stick in the warmed milk until it is completely melted.
My kids especially love having sprinkles in their hot chocolate and a pretty paper straw to drink it with too! Try these white hot chocolate mason jar Christmas gifts for another option for fun cocoa gifts or favors.

How do you store These? Wanting to make some for a wedding in about 4 weeks, will they keep that long? If not when would you suggest making them? They are adorable and I believe they would work great for Hot Cocoa Bar at my son’s wedding!
Such an adorable idea. What size is the silicon tray you used? Where are the straws & twine from? Also, what is a cute way to package these as gifts? Thanks!!
Hi Jessi, It looks like the silicone tray makes about 1.5 inch squares. The paper straws and twine are both Darice products that can be found in many craft stores. You can purchase them online as well at http://www.consumercrafts.com. As far as packaging them as gifts, you could wrap each stick in cellophane and tie with the twine. You could stick a few in a festive mug, along with some mini marshmallows! I hope this helps!
Hi. The silicone tray is actually a Wilton brownie bites mold. You’ll find it in the cake decorating aisle at your local craft store. I bought mine at Michael’s for about $10.00…
I thought the straws were candy canes, which might be a fun Christmas twist!
Wow Ashley they are beautiful! What a creative idea 🙂
This post was very popular this week at our Wonderful Wednesday Blog Hop and will be featured at the upcoming party. Congrats!
