The days are getting warmer and longer here, which is getting me ready for Summer. And when I think summer, I think yummy summer fruits – watermelon in particular. Watermelon is just so cute, right? These washi tape watermelon handmade cards are super simple to make and perfect for getting you in a sunny mood.
Washi tape watermelon handmade cards supplies:
- Darice Washi Tape (You will probably want red, pink, and green tapes, but play with different colors and patterns).
- Darice Blank Cards and Envelopes.
- Craft Knife.
- Cutting Mat.
- Pen or Marker.
- Wax Paper.
Begin by making a template for the shapes that represent the middle of the watermelon wedge and the rind. I just used a plate and ruler to help me create the shapes and then cut out the templates out of a scrap piece of cardstock.
Next, take two small pieces of wax paper, overlapping them slightly in the middle.
Cover the center part of the wax paper with washi tape making sure to slightly overlap each piece. The black centers of the flowers on this washi tape reminded me of watermelon seeds, so I chose it for the center of the watermelon.
Use a craft knife and the template to cut out the piece.
The overlapping wax paper gives you a nice little tab on the back, which makes it easy to peel off the backing.
And now you have a little washi tape sticker! Place it on the card front and then repeat the process for the rind pieces.
You can leave it as is or add a little message to the front of the handmade cards. I went with a couple “sweet” messages that I just wrote on with a favorite pen.
To make a matching envelope, place lengths of washi tape on the back flap and then trim off the excess with your craft knife.
These little handmade cards were really fun and simple to make. And the cute watermelons are perfect for the sunny days ahead!
