Bring a beautiful garden setting into your home this spring with this garden canvas with bird project! It will help you get rid of old cardstock you have laying around and it is the perfect springtime decor for your kitchen, bedroom or even bathroom windowsill.
Garden Canvas with Bird Supplies:
- Core’dinations Cardstock: Reflecting Pool, Meadow, Argos, Tangerine, Fuchsia Fizz, Nightfall
- Tim Holtz Nostalgic Collection Cardstock: No.11 and No.21
- Core’dinations Sand-It Gadget
- Dust Buddy
- 8 x 8 Inch Canvas
- Acrylic Paints
- Petaloo Flowers
- Spray Bottle
- Mod Podge
Step 1. Mix water and glycerin in a ratio of 16:1 in a spray bottle. Spray a sheet of Core Reflecting Pool cardstock on both sides.
Step 2. Scrunch cardstock into ball to add texture. Flatten out and leave to dry.
Step 3. Cover the canvas with a layer of Mod Podge and add the textured cardstock.
Step 4. Trim any excess cardstock from the back of the canvas and corners as shown. Add another layer of Mod Podge and leave to dry.
Step 5. Paint the canvas with green and blue acrylic paint to create a blended effect.
Step 6. Add some simple strokes of green acrylic paint to create a grass effect and add some dots of pink to represent flowers, allow to dry.
Step 7. Draw some simple grass blades onto the reverse of some Meadow cardstock in different lengths. Cut out and sand using your Sand-It gadget. Fold gently horizontally to create a 3D effect.
Step 8. Arrange grass onto canvas and adhere with a strong craft adhesive.
Step 9. Add some simple small painted flowers to the background. Arrange and adhere paper flowers.
Step 10. Cut some simple leaf shapes from No.11 Tim Holtz Kraft-Core collection cardstock, score along center, pinch vein leaves using needle nosed tweezers and sand using Sand-It gadget. Add to canvas.
Step 11. Trace the bird template that you can find and download here onto your No.21 cardstock from the Tim Holtz collection, cut it out and sand the edges. Trace the beak onto Tangerine colored cardstock, legs onto Argos, and the eye onto Nightfall.
Step 12. Assemble the bird adding dimension using foam pads. Add a dot of white acrylic paint to the eye. Adhere your bird onto the canvas behind some of the grass.
Step 13. Trace the butterfly onto your Fuchsia Fizz cardstock, cut it out and sand the edges, then adhere to your canvas as well.
Step 14. Add some more painted foliage and flowers in the background and some more Core cardstock for grass to the front to fill any gaps to finish.
