My daughter inherited the old master bedroom when we remodeled, and it has two closets. One for her clothes, and this junk closet- you know, one of those closets that everyone in the family stuffs full of random crap. (My husband still had his High School Letterman’s jacket in it!) When I saw the RoomLookz stuff- that happened to already match the colors in her room, it made me want to do something fun with the junk closet!! And I was excited to have it come together so easily. She started Junior High this year, so my priority for her space was a homework station, and a make-up vanity.

I gave the closet a fresh coat of paint, and my husband installed a narrow counter-top that we found at a builder supply store as a remnant. After the closet was prepped and the counter-top installed, my daughter and I had a great time accessorizing her homework station with RoomLookz.
Above the counter-top I added a Darice cork board with the frame painted black to the center of two RoomLookz magnet boards for a bulletin board station. The magnet boards came with clear instructions on installation and all of the necessary hardware. That was really nice. My husband did all of that, because he was around that day- but I am quite sure I could have done it myself!
A fun addition to the homework station was the “faux” hanging of the magnet boards. After the boards were hung as instructed to the wall, I created the black ribbon “faux” hangings. My husband drilled a screw at the center and about 3″ above the boards. I tucked the ends of the tied bow behind the boards and added a RoomLookz Gem magnet to the screw, and “hung” the bow over the gem. It looks like old fashioned glass knobs- and really adds a bit of glamorous detail to the space. Homework station? Check!
The magnetic RoomLookz bin was convenient storage for office supplies. Plus that thing is sturdy! I thought it might slide down the magnet board once it was filled with scissors, pens, etc. But it stayed put.
The RoomLookz mirror was perfect for her vanity area, the lamp provides light in the early morning when she is getting ready for school, and the darling desk caddie is a wonderful solution for containing her cosmetics. Vanity? Check! My daughter’s favorite addition(s) to the space were the candy dispenser and the tape dispenser. The tape dispenser is perfect for Washi tape! She filled it with Darice glitter tape.
The candy dispenser, I thought at first was just for gum balls, and that I would forever be trying to find gumballs for her. It takes any kind of small candy that will fit through the opening, and does not require a coin. We used colored Sixlets. I told her she could only reward herself when she finished a homework assignment!
Even if you don’t have an extra closet on hand to convert to a DIY homework station you can still use the RoomLookz items to makeover a bedroom or desk area.
