Summer is officially here and parents everywhere are scrambling to keep their kids entertained. I’m a huge fan of all the craft kits Darice has available on their site and I usually have quite a few in stock to give my boys when I hear the dreaded, “I’m bored.” These Color-In Wood Ornaments are some of our favorites! They’re easy to make and we’ve had fun customizing them in different ways, including making these DIY wind chimes for kids. Hope you enjoy making them too!
DIY Wind Chimes for Kids Supplies:
- Darice Color-In Wood Ornament Kits
- Spectrum Noir Alcohol Markers (optional)
- 1/16″ Darice Hole Punch
- Darice Baker’s Twine
- Darice Silver Wind Chime Kit
Step 1. Allow your kids to use the included markers to color in the wood ornaments. Remember, don’t worry if it’s not perfect. It’s all about the process!
Step 2. (optional) If you have older children or adults making this project, you could also bring out some pretty alcohol makers and use those instead of the ones provided in the kits. Both work great for coloring on the wood ornaments!
Step 3. Add holes to the bottom of the wood ornament. Depending on the age and ability of your child, you may need to complete this step for him/her.
Step 4. Use baker’s twine to weave wind chimes onto the bottom of the wood ornament.
It’s crazy how easy these DIY wind chimes for kids are to make! The kids had so much fun coloring in their own ornaments and loved seeing the transformation into a wind chime. This project would even be great to make during a summer camp or birthday party sleepover. With so many different Color-In Wood Ornament kits to choose from at Darice, you’re sure to find the perfect theme to match any special occasion. Hope you have a wonderful time making these wind chime with your kids this summer!
Plain wood cut outs and beads can also be used in this project. Check out these DIY wind chimes for inspiration.
