A real statement piece, this necklace combines simple jewelry making techniques with a more advanced tassel making step. Customize the necklace with different colored hemp and cording. - Bead Fix
- Craft Glue
- Masking Tape
- Piece of Cardboard 14” x 3”
- Wire or Twist Tie
Step 1. To begin this tassel cord necklace DIY tutorial, cut the taupe cord 26” long. Cut a 25” length of white cord.
Step 2. Apply a small amount of bead fix to each cord end and an end cap. Insert cord end into the end cap and press firmly for several seconds.
Step 4. Lay cording on worktable, with white cord on the inside. Tape the cords together onto the table.
Step 5. Wrap a 1” section of the cords with blue hemp about 7” from the end. Do this on both sides. Glue ends in place.
Step 1. Wrap 4 packages of the fine white hemp cording around a 14” length of cardboard. Twist tie center of cording on both sides and slide cording off cardboard. Bring centers together and hold together with a twist tie. Remove the other twist ties.
Step 2. Wrap the cording with variegated hemp 1.5” down from either side of the twist tie. The total variegated section will be 3″. Remove the twist tie once hemp has been wrapped around cording for 1”. Glue ends in place. Wrap 1.25” section on both sides of the variegated hemp with blue hemp. Glue ends in place.
Step 3. Bring blue wrapped sections together and wrap gathered cord with natural hemp ½” wide. Glue end in place.
Step 4. Trim ends of the tassel even.
The skill level for this jewelry project is intermediate. Some prior jewelry making experience may be helpful to complete the tutorial but it is not necessary. The approximate crafting time for this tutorial is from 1-2 hours.
