Today’s jewelry tutorial is brought to you by the Darice Design Team. Brush up on your bead work and string together seed beads in bold patterns to create the fringe on this fun piece. This DIY seed bead necklace can be customized with Darice’s wide selection of seed bead colors and sizes. We used size 10/0 beads for this project for a more delicate look. If you use a thicker jewelry chain for the necklace you can go with a larger seed bead to balance it out. Read on to find the step by step instructions and the supplies needed to make your own DIY seed bead necklace with fringe.
DIY Seed Bead Necklace Supplies:
- Darice Assorted 10/0 Glass Seed Beads
- Darice 10/0 Silver Glass Seed Beads
- Darice Silver Cable Chain
- Darice 24 Gauge Silver Wire
- Darice 4mm Jump Rings
- Darice Silver Lobster Clasp
- Darice 1.5” Silver Eye Pins
- Dairce Side Cutters
- Darice Round Nose Pliers
- Darice Flat Nose Pliers
Step 1. To begin your DIY seed bead necklace, cut a 2” section of wire. Loop one end. String on 25 silver beads. Trim end and loop.
Step 2. String 14 seed beads onto 14 head pins in a desired pattern. Trim and loop ends.
Step 3. Cut 14 – 10 link sections of chain.
Step 4. Attach a chain section to each beaded pin. Add a jump ring to the other end of the chains.
Step 5. Cut a 20”-24” length of chain. Attach the beaded chains along the center of the chain- on every other link.
Step 6. Attach the silver bead wire you created in step 1 to the necklace chain 3 links above the beaded pins.
Step 7. Add a jump ring and lobster clasp to the ends of the chain.
The skill level for this jewelry project is beginner to intermediate. Some prior jewelry making experience is helpful in completing this tutorial. Expect to spend around 1 hour working on this DIY seed bead necklace.
