Making jewelry can be intimidating, but lucky for you, I have a quick turquoise choker DIY tutorial to share. The best part? It only requires two supplies and can be made in less than a minute. Plus it won’t put a dent in your budget! Talk about the best DIY ever, am I right?
With the 90’s making it’s return to the fashion scene, I couldn’t be more excited. My tween and teen years totally experienced this season of overly plucked eyebrows, ska bands, and skate boards. Naturally, my mid-thirties self couldn’t be MORE pleased to truly experience this decade for the first time – fashion speaking. These trends would include, dark lipstick, grunge clothing, CK One, and chokers. Oh, how I LOVE chokers. What’s interesting about my age group is that people either welcome it’s return or hate it.
(If you haven’t guessed already by just the title alone, I’m 100% #teamchoker, ha!)
I welcome the coolness a choker necklace can bring to your ensemble – even with just a jeans and t-shirt look. This specific choker DIY necklace can be made so dang fast that you will want to make one for all your friends and their friends! Then people will think you are so dang crafty and cool – just like I always wished I was way back when… maybe even now. For my new, coming of age cool young friends: the 90’s fashion sphere welcomes you and your enthusiasm. With that said, here we go!
Turquoise Choker DIY Tutorial Supplies:
- Darice Leather Cording, Real or Faux
- Darice Turquoise Pendant
- Scissors
Are you ready for this? I am so excited! Thread your leather cording through the two jump rings of your pendant.
Notice in the photo above, we are keeping the cording away from the pendant. When you put on your choker, your head will fit through the space between the cording and turquoise stone and then finish by tying the cording in the back. Pretending your neck was in the open space below, the dynamics of the cord and tying it will look very similar to this below.
Notice, I have not given you a specific size for the length of the cording AND I haven’t given you “choker necklace findings” for closures. No neck is the same size and when I tried making this with closures it was either too short or too long and the stone is quite large. This meant that if the length was off, it would not hang right or it would feel very restricting. Restricting was my childhood 90’s experience and that’s the one thing I am not repeating, ha! The large size of the turquoise pendant is what makes this choker DIY necklace so cool. Giving you the option to tie it yourself worked the best. Whether you tie it in the back or tie it in the front, keep the tails of the cording long or short, it’s up to you! I have done both and have had great success!
And that’s it! This choker DIY necklace is so wonderfully simple, right? Totally!
You may be wondering if that is real turquoise? You betcha! It’s another reason why I love this specific pendant. This Turquoise choker is a piece I get complemented on often! I don’t know about you, but I am a big fan of compliments! Which naturally brings up choker convos with my girlfriends – they are also team choker. Whatever side you fall on, this turquoise choker DIY tutorial is a great way to give new life to an everyday look or become the best gift idea! People will say, “wow, you are so thoughtful…” and crafty and cool!
Thanks so much for stopping by and hope you get a second to give this try! For another turquoise jewelry piece I love, check out this classic DIY stone pendant necklace.
