Mother’s Day is on the horizon and I’ve been thinking of something to give to my mom who I love and miss dearly. She loves jewelry and always asks me to make her something and I rarely oblige, so I thought this time around I’ll give her a few. I’ll be sharing how easy it is to make your own simple stone DIY necklace today – it’s pretty straightforward even beginners will have no problem in making it.
It’s very versatile so you can use your preferred beads (or your gift recipient’s preferred beads) and spacers. I’m also sharing how I packaged my mom’s gift – and giving you a free printable tag and box template to download as well!

Step 1. Cut off a length of jewelry wire (about 5 inches). Using your round-nose pliers, turn one of the ends until you form two or three loops as shown in the photo below.
Step 2. Thread your beads of choice – you have the option of making the focal point of the DIY necklace long or short – it’s always a good idea to use an odd number of beads for your necklace to be symmetrical.
Step 3. Once you are done, cut off the excess, leaving about 1/2″ or so for looping.
Step 4. Again, using your round-nose pliers, loop the other end of the main piece of your necklace until the beads are tight against each other.
Step 5. Form your main DIY necklace piece into a curved shape and use your flat-nose pliers to bend the loops to face the same way.
Step 7. For the box, follow the template to cut, and fold like in the photo.
Step 8. For mine, I added coordinating paper as a belt for the box, and a rolled paper flower and some foliage accents. Print and cut the free printable tag using a 2″ circle punch. And you are done – your DIY necklace is ready to be gifted!
