What do you get when you mix two of the coolest DIY summer trends for earrings? You get some rock’in ombre DIY tassel jewelry that will knock the socks off of everyone you meet! It’s a bold claim, for sure, but I have had so many compliments on my earrings! It makes me so happy to wear them BECAUSE it’s something that I made myself and makes me feel on top of the world. I may have given up on ombre hair for myself years ago but the ombre trend in fashion remains strong, INCLUDING tassels… oh how I love tassels, and with that said, let’s get started!!
Ombré DIY Tassel Jewelry Supplies:
- Darice Cotton Embroidery Floss (I used this pack so I could make MORE than one pair of tassel earrings, which I did!)
- Darice French Earring Hook
- Embroidery Needle
- Darice Scissors
Directions:
Step 1. To make your DIY tassel jewelry, you will need to gather three different shades of pink embroidery floss: Light, regular, and dark.
You will have 6 total tassels, 3 for each earring.
Step 2. Next start with cutting 2 pieces of string about the length of your looped embroidery floss, as seen below.
Step 3. Take one of those strings and tie a knot around the center of your floss.
Step 4. Fold the embroidery floss in half . This should be where you tied your first string around the floss.
Step 5. Tie your second string around the folded tip of your embroidery floss, as seen below.
Step 6. It should look similar to the picture below.
Step 7. Trim the excess threads….I cut mine down to a 1″ tassel, but you are the designer, so you decide how long you want your tassels.
Step 8. Your tassels should look similar to the one seen below. Repeat steps 2-8 for each additional color of embroidery floss.
In this particular case, light pink, regular, and dark pink. You should have 6 tassels total, three for each ear.
Step 9. Thread your needle with some embroidery floss. Tie a knot at the end. Using your needle, go through the base of your new tassel.
Then loop around the first thread you tied your floss with (see step 3).
Step 10. Repeat for each color.
Step 11. Each earring should look like this before you sew on the french hook.
Step 12. Once those french hooks are secured in place, they should look similar to the one I just made!
So that’s a wrap my good friends, I really hope that this makes sense and you are able to create your own DIY tassel jewelry yourself!
