Make a pair of statement earrings perfect for summer with this DIY fringe hoop earrings tutorial! Fringe is totally in style right now and what better way to rock them this summer than with a pair of fringe hoops in pretty summer colors. This DIY is fast, fun and can be easily completed in under 30 minutes – so what are you waiting for? Get your materials out and let’s start making these DIY fringe earrings!
DIY Fringe Hoop Earrings Supplies:
- Darice Hoop Earrings
- Darice Embroidery Floss or Yarn
- Darice Oval Cable Chain
- Darice Flat Nose Pliers
- Scissors
Step 1. First, choose your colors. Since summer is in full swing, I decided to use colors of the sea, complemented with some bright corals. I used a mix of embroidery floss and thin yarn, but you can easily other materials such as suede cord and such!
Step 2. Wrap your middle color on your hand like so, about four or five times. Cut off the excess embroidery floss and cut one end, similar to when you are making tassels.
Step 3. Lay the floss in a U shape like in the photo below.
Step 4. Take the two ‘tails’ of the embroidery floss and pull it through the top loop, making sure that it is wrapping around the hoop earring in the process.
Step 5. Pull the tails and tighten the loop, forming a knot. Repeat until you form five DIY fringe tassels using your other embroidery floss colors, or more if you prefer! Make sure all the knots are facing one way – they don’t really look that great when they’re facing different sides. I centered my blue green fringe tassel, followed it with coral fringe on either side and then finally the sea green fringe on either side of that.
Step 6. You can leave it raw and uncut for that maximum boho chic feel, or cut them like I did – I roughly cut mine in a pointed arrow shape as you can see below. If you want to cut yours, make sure you use the prior piece you have cut as a guide for the second earring, or cut them at the same time.
Step 7. Finally, add some embellishments! I used some silver chain to adorn the earrings even more. For the outer chains, I used 14 links and for the inner chains I used 16 links. Feel free to make it longer or shorter – even finish the ends with a charm!
And you are done! I really love the color combination and texture these DIY fringe earrings have. Not only is it a contrast of soft and hard materials, the texture of the yarn and the embroidery floss gives it a fun vibe as well.
