I love children’s art! My boys bring home so much art from school (on top of all the art they make at home), that I don’t know what to do with all of it. I’m a fan of transforming kid art into keepsake items so it can be enjoyed beyond just being put inside a memorabilia box. This bottle cap crafts project is a simple and fun way to turn kid art into keepsake magnets and a pendant, using Darice Signed, Sealed & Remembered Bottle Cap supplies.
Kid Art Bottle Cap Crafts Supplies Needed:
- Darice Signed, Sealed & Remembered Bottle Caps (1″ with pendant loop).
- Darice Signed, Sealed & Remembered Bottle Caps (1″ with magnet backing).
- Darice Signed, Sealed & Remembered Clear 1″ Epoxy Domes.
- Precision Scissors or Craft Knife.
- Industrial Glue like E-6000.
- Darice Ball Chain Necklace (I used aqua).
Step one: Gather Photos for Bottle Cap Crafts
Take pictures: Before you start, take some photos of your child’s art in a well lit area that receives natural lighting (next to a window is ideal). Put the art on a plain background, such as a white poster board or a clean table. By using photos, you won’t damage your child’s precious art by cutting it up!
Make photo collage: Make sure each piece of kid art will print up smaller than 1″ each. I used Picmonkey.com to create a collage of small square photos and then I printed it on one sheet of photo paper on my home printer.
Note: My kids colored these drawings from Monsters Are Messy.
Step two: Making the Bottle Cap Crafts
The 1″ epoxy dome stickers make this project so easy and fun. Your kids will enjoy helping, or even doing the entire project by themselves.
First, place an epoxy dome sticker over the area of the art that you want to feature. Press it down onto the photo to make sure it sticks well.
Next, trim around the epoxy dome sticker with sharp precision scissors or a craft knife.
Next, spread some industrial glue inside the bottle cap. Don’t use too much glue, or it will squeeze out around the sides of the epoxy sticker.
Place the epoxy sticker into the bottle cap (for the pendants, notice where the bail on the pendant is, and make sure it is facing the top of the picture), and then allow the glue to dry several hours, or according to the package directions.
I love the bottle cap magnets because they are so quick and easy, and so adorable. Make a set for grandparents, teachers, or friends. Don’t forget to keep a few for your own fridge — they’re perfect for hanging up more kid art!
You can also make necklace bottle cap crafts!
I used colorful ball chain because it’s the perfect type of chain to accompany a casual pendant made from a bottle cap!
Just open up the ball chain necklace and slip it onto the bottle cap pendant.
These bottle cap crafts are nearly instant in gratification! Once you see how easy it is to create polished-looking jewelry with the epoxy dome stickers, you will be sticking them on all kinds of paper surfaces and creating gorgeous jewelry.
