The first time I saw these angel wings I knew I had to have them – they’re just so delicate and pretty! I had no idea what to use them on, so I decided to make handcrafted earrings out of them. I love how easy and fast these came together. It’s a great project if you’re looking for something easy to throw together and give out to your friends and co-workers as gifts. Come and see how I made them!
Angel Wing Handcrafted Earrings Supplies:
- Darice Angel Wing Gold Filigree Charm.
- Darice Pearl Beads.
- Darice Fish Hook Earring Wires.
- Darice Head Pins.
- Darice Jump Rings.
- Darice Jewelry Pliers (Set of 5) – it’s better to invest in the set if you’re planning to make a lot of jewelry!
- Darice Flat Nose Rubber Jaw Pliers.
Step 1. To begin your handcrafted earrings you will use your rubber jaw pliers to flatten your angel wing. You want the wings perfectly aligned. I used rubber jaw pliers to flatten the metal so it doesn’t get scratched (as opposed to if you use regular flat-nose pliers).
Step 2. Open your wing, and fold it back like in the photo below – on the left. Fold it back until the wings are perfectly aligned and flatten it using your rubber jaw pliers again. This is done so we can hide the middle connector portion of the wing.
Step 3. I found it easier to add the earring hook first before the other embellishments. At this point, you can also decide if you like your handcrafted earrings with or without the embellishments we will add in the following steps. Attach the earring hook using a small jump ring about 3-4 mm in size on the highest point of the wing.
Step 4. Time to make the embellishments for your handcrafted earrings! Thread your pearls one on each head pin and see how much of the head pin you want to cut off. I like the difference in heights so I gauged how I wanted it and cut it off with a wire cutter. To get the same pin lengths for the other earring, make sure to cut the pins for the other earring as well at this point.
Step 5. Make a loop at the end of the head pin to keep your bead from falling off.
Step 6. Finally, open the loops once again and attach them onto the bottom part of the wing. Arrange according to your preference. For me, I centered the longest pin and arranged the middle and shortest pins around it. You can also ‘cascade’ it by arranging the pins from shortest to longest on these handcrafted earrings.
And you are done! I love how dainty they look with the pearls. It’s something easy to whip up in a few minutes too! These angel wing handcrafted earrings are the perfect gift for your fashionable friend, family or co-worker.
