I just adore birdhouses! They’re so fun to paint, embellish, and decorate with. I’m always on the lookout for fun DIY birdhouse ideas. For my latest project I decided to make a little village of birdhouses to create a pretty wreath to decorate my home with this spring.
DIY Birdhouse Ideas Wreath Supplies:
- Darice Unfinished Wood Birdhouses (8)
- Darice Picket Fence Wood Shape (8)
- Chalk Paint in Various Colors
- Darice Jute Roping with Linen Flowers
- Staple Gun
Step 1. Paint the birdhouses. I chose six different colors in the blue-green-yellow family so that they would complement each other. I made sure that each color was on every house so that they would coordinate with each other.
Step 2. Paint the picket fence shapes with an off white paint color.
Step 3. Place the bird houses face down on your work surface and arrange them into a circular shape. I used a seven inch plate in the center (see picture) to make sure the birdhouses were arranged in a circle with houses opposite each other.
Step 4. Arrange the mini wood picket fences between each of the houses. This will help connect them to each other. See the picture for help positioning the picket fences.
Step 5. Use a staple gun to attach the fences to each other and to the bird houses. Be generous with your stapling! You don’t want your wreath to come apart later.
Step 6. Use the staple gun again to attach the jute roping with flowers behind the wreath. I wound it back and forth to fill in the opening at the center of the wreath.
I used a wreath hanger to display my wreath outside. It’s such a fun alternative to a floral wreath, don’t you think? I might add little birds or other miniatures to it later just to change things up a bit. Have fun crafting and creating DIY birdhouse ideas for your spring decor!
