With spring in the air, I am having fun creating spring decor for my home! I love adding light, bright and airy colors to my home and I especially love being able to do that on the cheap! And this project is really quite inexpensive, especially if you happen to have a stash of pretty scrapbook paper on hand like I do. So today I am really excited to share this pretty and perfect-for-spring 3D DIY butterfly wall art.
Using just a few supplies you can create beautiful spring inspired specimen art for your home without a lot of skill or time needed. Keep reading to find out how to create this DIY butterfly wall art for yourself.
3D DIY Butterfly Wall Art Supplies:
- Studio 71 8 x 10 Inch Stretched Canvas
- EK Tools Layering Butterfly Punch
- Core’dinations Patterned Scrapbook Paper
- Darice Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
You will begin your DIY butterfly wall art by selecting the scrapbook paper of your preference. Because this particular butterfly punch has the ability to punch three slightly different designs, I wanted to use three similarly colored scrapbook paper but with varying designs. Using the butterfly punch, you will want to punch out each of the three different designs on same colored, different patterned paper.
After all of the butterflies are punched, you will begin to assemble and glue them together. Using only a touch of hot glue in the middle of the butterfly, attach the three butterfly shapes to each other. Then use a touch of hot glue to attached the 3D butterflies to the canvas. Lightly bend the top two layers of the paper butterflies to create the 3D effect.
Even though it might take a few minutes to punch all the butterflies, this project really does assemble quickly and anyone can do it. In fact, this is a project my daughter would love to complete all by herself.
After your DIY butterfly art is complete you can decide where to display in your home. Although it would also be perfect for year long decor in a little girl’s room too!
This DIY butterfly wall art idea can be altered using different punches for other holidays as well! But I really do love these butterflies for the spring! If you loved this pretty project you may also be interested in this DIY spring plate decoration that’s covered in paper butterflies.
