Whether you’re trying to help your kids find their calm zone or you need a little more calmness in your day, this mini zen garden DIY project is the perfect way to slow down life and relax a bit. My favorite thing about this project is how easy it comes together but being able to customize is definitely a close second. So, if you’re finding yourself stressed out or irritated, just think about how calm you’ll be after putting your new mini zen garden DIY project together!
Mini Zen Garden DIY Supplies:
- Darice Wood Shadow Box
- Darice Decorative Floral Lava Rocks
- (4) Bottles of Darice Tan Decorative Sand
- Darice Artificial Succulents
- Wood Stain (optional)
- Darice Metal Garden Bridge
- Darice Metal Garden Tool Set
Step 1. You can begin this mini zen garden DIY project by adding a bit of wood stain to the natural wood shadow box. This step is optional but I love how it brings out the natural grain of the wood.
Step 2. Once the wood stain has dried, add the four containers of sand to the shadow box. I went with a neutral tan color for my sand color but Darice has a wide selection of other colors to choose from if you’d like something different.
Step 3. Now that the sand is in the box, you can start adding the fun accessories! I had to fold the legs back on the metal bridge I wanted to be the centerpiece of my zen garden but you could also use some wire cutters to remove the legs completely.
Step 4. Continue adding the rocks and small succulents until you’re happy with the look. Just keep in mind that you’ll want enough blank sand space to play around with the rake.
Step 5. Now that your mini zen garden DIY project is complete, just take the miniature rake and move the sand around until you find your calmness returning!
I went super minimal with my mini zen garden DIY and only added a bridge, small succulent, and some rocks but Darice has tons of miniatures to choose from if you’re looking for something different. Hope you enjoy making one!
