If you are looking for the ultimate personalized gift, look no further! This DIY lantern idea is customizable with any picture and everyone will love to find one under the tree. The best part is that this project is so easy to make. So, add one of these lanterns to your own home and make a few for gifts as well.
Supplies for this custom DIY lantern idea:
- Darice Lantern (with panes smaller than 8×11)
- Darice Vellum Cardstock
- Inkjet Printer and Ink
- Scissors
- Glue
- Darice LED Candle
Be sure to choose a lantern where the windows are not larger than the pieces of vellum. Measure the window where you would like to add your image. Choose the image you want and print it on your vellum using an inkjet printer. You will want to make sure to print where it will fit inside the window you measured. Allow the ink to dry completely on the vellum. It will be wet when you remove it from the printer.
Cut the vellum to the size of the pane of your lantern. I was able to remove the pane from my lantern and trace it with a pen. If you can’t remove it, just measure and use a ruler to make the lines on your vellum.
Cut around the line with scissors.
Once you cut with scissors, it is time to secure the vellum to the glass pane. Use a very thin bead of glue around the outer edge.
Then add the vellum to the glass. Remove any excess glue. Allow to dry completely.
Add the pane back to the lantern if it was removed. Then just add the candle to the inside and light it.
You can see the candlelight through the vellum making the picture glow when lit.
The lantern looks just as good when the candle is not lit, however.
Making a DIY photo lantern is so easy and everyone on your gift-giving list will love to receive one.
So, get a lantern for every mom and grandma that needs a gift for the holidays and add a picture to the inside. You will have gifts made for under the tree in no time at all.
