Gold Framed Faux DIY Succulent Planter

Succulents are SUPER trendy right now and you’ve probably seen lots of bloggers using them for projects in their homes, but to some people…taking care of the succulents may be daunting. Great news for all you non-green thumbs out there…Darice came out with the perfect solution! Faux succulents! They are adorable and life-like, but allow you to enjoy the look without the hassle! Today I’m going to show you how I achieved that gorgeous and enviable succulent planter look, but without the upkeep, with this DIY succulent planter idea!

Faux DIY succulent planter Supplies:

  • Darice Chicken Wire Frame
  • Gold Spray Paint
  • Darice Succulents in varying sizes and styles (roughly 10 total)
  • Darice Hot Glue/Glue Gun
  • Wire Cutters

Step one. Start by spray painting your chicken wire frame (if desired) to achieve a fun and modern look. The regular frame is just natural wood and silver wire mesh, but a quick dusting of gold spray paint adds instant elegance and a modern feel!

Step two. After your paint has dried, trim all the tags off your faux succulents and then start arranging them in your frame.

At first I thought I wanted to fill up the whole frame, then I decided it was much prettier to let a little gold wire hang out and leave a little gap.

After you have the succulents positioned the way you like, place a large board on top of the frame and then flip the whole thing over so the succulents are faced down. Then use your hot glue gun to secure the stems in place on the wiring. It will take quite a bit of glue and some patience to let it dry before you advance to the next step.

Step four. After the succulents are secured, use your wire cutters to trim off the long stems so that the whole thing will lay flat.

Step five. Flip back over again and VOILA! You have a gorgeous and maintenance free DIY succulent planter to put in your home!!

This DIY succulent planter may very well be one of my FAVORITE projects to date! I hope you enjoyed it too!!

I love the look of the faux succulents…I am not seeing them on the Darice website. Where can I purchase these?

Darice is now selling them – I recently just bought some from them.
