DIY Cactus Shelf Decor

01.30.19 By Angie 1 Comment

Make this cactus DIY plant display  easily in a few simple steps. This will look amazing on the wall of any room in your home. If you have been looking for a way to add the cactus trend to your own home, this one is definitely for you!

Cactus-DIY-Plant-Display-Darice-1 Cactus DIY Plant Display Supplies:

  • Cactus Wood Shelf
  • Terracotta Pots (mine are 3 1/2 inches)
  • Spray Paint (in two colors)
  • Darice Craft Paint (in a third color)
  • Small Plastic Cups
  • Darice Paint Brush
  • Drill
  • Hole Drill Bit the Size of Your Pots
  • Sandpaper
  • Darice Scissors
  • Cactus Plants
  • Rocks
  • Dirt

Cactus-DIY-Plant-Display-Darice-2You’ll want to begin your DIY plant display by measuring and marking where your four pots should be. Use a hole drill attachment to drill a hole in each of the four spots. I did mine slightly smaller than the pot diameter. Clean up the holes with sandpaper. Then clean your entire cactus shelf before continuing.

Cactus-DIY-Plant-Display-Darice-3Paint the shelf in one color and the pots in another. I used white and yellow. Spray paint makes this step go a bit faster. Use a few coats of spray paint and allow to dry in between coats. You will want to make sure you paint the top and bottom of the DIY plant display as both will be visible on your wall.

Cactus-DIY-Plant-Display-Darice-4Allow everything to dry completely then add an accent color to the pots if desired. I used craft paint and paintbrush to do a stripe around the top of mine. This may require multiple coats of paint. Allow those to dry before continuing.

Cactus-DIY-Plant-Display-Darice-5I did not want water to drip out of the holes in the bottom of the pots. So I got some plastic cups and trimmed the tops with scissors until they fit inside my pots without showing.

Cactus-DIY-Plant-Display-Darice-6Then add rocks to the plastic cups and plant your cactus inside. You may need additional dirt depending on how big your cacti are to start with. Hang your cactus DIY plant display in your room then drop in your terra cotta pots with the plastic pots and cactus inside.
