Giant Crepe Paper Poinsettia Backdrop

Happy holidays, creative friends! Have you jumped head first into Christmas projects yet?? I have run out of places to display my Christmas craft projects, but I just keep creating! Ha! I am so excited to share a fun backdrop display for your next Christmas party, and it costs just a few dollars to make! With just two rolls of crepe paper sheets, you can make some lovely oversized poinsettia craft flowers. I promise they are super easy!

Giant poinsettia craft supplies:

  • Darice Crepe Paper sheets in Red
  • Darice Crepe Paper Sheets in Green
  • Scissors & Pencil
  • Darice Wood Beads
  • Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
  • Low-Tack Adhesive
  • Gold Craft Paint
  • 1/4″ Paintbrush

To get started, first measure a 14″ section of your crepe paper, and cut it with your scissors. Fold it in half and cut out a leaf shape as big as you can.

For one flower, cut about nine red petals. Repeat with the green crepe paper, cutting about six petals for the base of your flower. Don’t worry about your leaves being perfect. They look better when they vary a little bit!

Using your hot glue gun, layer your green leaves on top of each other. Your leaf base will use about six leaves.

Repeat with your red petals, making sure you stagger the width between each one. I used nine petals for each of my flowers. When you have glued them all together, flip your flower over and gently scrunch the middle  gently. This will give your flower a little more depth and dimension.

For the center of your flower, paint an assortment of wood beads in gold paint.

Let the beads dry, and paint a second coat if needed. Make sure your beads are completely dry before glueing them to your flower.

Using your hot glue gun, adhere the wood beads in the center of your flower. I used six beads in two different sizes.

Next, use your low-tack adhesive to adhere your poinsettia to your wall. Slightly scrunch some of the the leaves for extra dimension.

Set up the rest of your table, and you are ready for your holiday party!

I am a big fan of keeping things simple, and I love the wow factor this backdrop brings!

Our fun little holiday soiree is next week, and I think I will keep these up until Christmas! They are a much better alternative since I am a person that kills plants and flowers as soon as I bring them home. Ha!

This poinsettia craft is such a fun way to showcase a traditional Christmas flower. I can’t wait for my guests to see them!

Happy holiday crafting, and have fun with that crepe paper!

XOXOXO
