Make this DIY snowman wreath and add it to your front door for the holidays then leave it up all winter long. This whimsical wreath is perfect for those that love all things rustic. Plus that plaid scarf really makes the entire wreath in my opinion. Maybe you like that top hat better? Add them both to a snowman wreath to welcome your guests!
DIY snowman wreath supplies:
- Darice grapevine wreaths (I used two 8 inch and one 6 inch)
- Black craft paint
- Red ribbon (for the hat band)
- Holly leaves
- Iced branches
- Darice paper mache hat
- Plaid ribbon (9 inch wide version)
- Dowel rod
- Hot glue and glue gun
- Craft knife
- Paint brush
Start by cutting your hat in two with a craft knife.
Then paint the hat with a few coats of black paint. Be sure to paint on all surfaces that will be visible. Set aside to dry.
While your paint dries, you can begin to assemble your wreath. Hot glue the two bottom wreaths together. I added a small scrap of ribbon to the back to add more stability and also give me something to glue to.
Tie a length of the ribbon into a “scarf” and secure that as well as the last grapevine wreath to the top of your snowman. I used a lot of hot glue here to get everything to stay in place.
You can then trim the iced branches with scissors and add them to the sides with a bit of hot glue.
Once your hat is dry, add a ribbon around the bottom as well as a holly leaf. Secure with hot glue.
Add the hat to the top of your wreath with some hot glue. I found that the hat did not want to stand up. Use a short dowel rod as shown below on the inside of the hat. Secure to both the top of the hat as well as to the top of your wreath with hot glue.
Now your DIY snowman wreath is ready to hang! I actually put the hook on the door through that top wreath instead of hooking by the hat. I felt it was more secure that way.
You can change this idea up many ways including using different materials for the scarf. Let your imagination run wild and create a snowman that is all your own.
I will be enjoying this guy throughout the winter as a cute addition to my outdoor decor.
Will you be making a DIY snowman wreath of your very own?
