Hiya, crafty friends! It’s never too early to start thinking about holiday parties, and I do have a fabulous DIY candy cane backdrop idea for you! All you need is an inexpensive candy cane metal wreath form, and a few rolls of crepe paper. In just a few minutes you can put together a fun statement pieces for your holiday soiree! Ready to learn how?
DIY candy cane backdrop supplies:
- Darice Metal Candy Cane Wreath Form
- Darice Crepe Paper Streamer in White
- Darice Crepe Paper Streamer in Red
- Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
- 1 Sheet Core’dinations Cardstock in Lotus Flower
- Darice Candy Cane Ornaments (For gift boxes)
To get started, first take your metal wreath form and hot glue gun, and attach your white crepe paper to the bottom. Let the crepe paper hang off of the end of the wreath form about 1/4 of an inch.
Slowly wrap your crepe paper up along the wreath form, slightly overlapping it. Carefully pull the crepe paper snug as you wrap it around. Add a dab of glue every few inches if you are worried about it unraveling.
Tuck in each end of your candy cane where you overlapped the crepe paper. Use a little hot glue to keep it in place.
Next, take your red crepe paper and adhere it to the bottom of your candy cane. Slowly wrap it around your candy cane leaving 1-2 inches in between each stripe. Try to keep your spacing even as you go. When you are done, adhere the red crepe paper to the back of your candy cane.
To make my DIY candy cane stand out a little more, I cut a bow by hand out of my Core’dinations cardstock. I used my hot glue gun to assemble it and glue it to the candy cane. To attach my candy cane to my wall, I used a strong double stick tape that was safe for my wall paint. Adhesive dots should work well too!
I also used the same ornaments to make a cute candy cane heart cake topper. Love it!
That’s it! Such a quick and easy party to throw together.
I just loved how my DIY candy cane holiday party decor turned out,. I can’t wait for our fun night with friends! This would be a great backdrop for a gingerbread house party too. Just think of all the candy dishes with this oversized candy cane above them. So fun!
Happy holiday crafting!
