I love, love, love the 4th of July! It is my absolute favorite holiday of the year. Summer holidays are so laid back and relaxing. I adore getting together with family for parades and BBQs. This year I thought I would make a fun patriotic DIY crochet headband for my youngest daughter. Now my older daughter wants one too!
This DIY crochet headband will work for young and old girls, and can be modified to fit adults. It’s a fun headband for all ages.
DIY Crochet Headband Supplies:
- Darice Red, White, and Blue yarn
- Darice Size H Crochet Hook
- Darice Mini Knit Loom
- Darice Scissors
- Tapestry Needle
- Darice Loom Hook
Headband Pattern:
Crochet a chain 100 stitches long in each color. Leave long tails on the chains, tie off, do not weave in ends.
To make this DIY crochet headband for an adult make each chain is 120 stitches long. Then follow as written below.
Flower Pattern:
To make your flower take the loom in hand and thread the end of the red yarn through the middle of the loom.
Take the other end of the yarn and wrap it around the top spoke then around the spoke directly across from it in a figure 8 pattern.
Continue around the loom in a clockwise pattern. I like to fill my pegs full, meaning I go around the loom about 6 times.
Cut yarn and tie a knot with ends of the yarn.
Using your darning needle take your white yarn and stitch from one spoke to another, clockwise.
After sewing around the middle tie off the end of the white yarn. Leave the white tails long to use to tie the flower onto your headband.
Take the loops off the loom using your loom hook.
Lay out your three chains, then tie on your flowers. Trim up any long ends.
Tie the DIY crochet headband around your or your daughter’s head and rock your 4th of July.
Here’s another fun patriotic headwear project to try this year: Perler Bead headband for kids.
