Want a fun Mother’s Day gift for the moms in your life? How about a DIY bird nest necklace made out of wire wrapped pearls that represent eggs — or each child. This is a simple beginner-level wire wrapping project that anyone can do, and you only need a few supplies and very basic jewelry-making skills and tools.
- Darice 24 Gauge Wire
- Darice Freshwater Pearl Beads
- Jump Ring
- Darice Necklace Chain
- Wire Cutters and Long-nose Pliers (I used the Jewelry Tools Set)
Step two. String as many beads on the wire as you would like eggs in the nest. For my necklace, I chose four “eggs” because I have four children.
Step five. After several twists around the nest, you will want to wrap the wire tail around the outside of the next to anchor the wire coil to the eggs. Bring the tail up from the back and around the nest, then “sew” it down into the middle of the nest. Wrap a few times in this manner.
Step six. Continue to add to the nest until it looks right to you. When you are finished, clip the end of the wire and wrap it around the DIY bird nest, tucking the end inside where it won’t snag on anything.
Note: To open a jump ring, hold one side of the ring with pliers, and gently pull the other side of the ring toward you. The jump ring should look like a tiny Slinky that is being stretched, NOT like an open O with a gap in it.
