The problem with Halloween and Thanksgiving being so close together on the calendar is that, often times, you’re left to choose which one you want to decorate for. I know that I can’t be the only one that feels like Halloween decorations go up one week and then it’s time for Thanksgiving the next! Luckily, Darice has a perfect solution to this problem. With only the flick of your wrist, this reversible DIY fall craft decor will work perfectly from October right into November.
Reversible DIY Fall Craft Decor Supplies:
- Darice Wood Pumpkin with Open Mouth
- Darice Maple Leaf & Sunflower Floral Pick
- Stencil Vinyl
- Transfer Paper
- Cutting Machine
- Darice Brown Matte Acrylic Paint
- Darice Sponge Dabbers
- “Thanks and Giving” Free File
Step 1. Since the front side of the pumpkin decor is already perfect for Halloween, we’ll just be adding a little bit of paint and embellishments to the back for Thanksgiving. Use a cutting machine to cut the “Thanks and Giving” free file from the stencil vinyl. Weed out the letters so that you’re left with a stencil.
Step 2. Use transfer paper to put the stencil in place in the center of the back of the pumpkin. Carefully pull away the transfer paper.
Step 3. Use a dabber to apply paint to the stencil letters. You’ll find that dabbing the paint on (verses paint strokes) really helps cut back on the paint bleeding under the stencil.
Step 4. Carefully remove the stencil. I found it easier to remove it while the paint was still drying but you do have to be more careful that you don’t accidentally smudge the paint.
Step 5. I disassembled parts of this sunflower floral pick and ended up only using the leaf and berry bits but you can totally customize this step to fit your personal preferences.
I absolutely love how easily this reversible DIY fall craft decor goes from this:
to this by simply flipping it around to the backside!
Hope you have fun making one to enjoy for many Halloween and Thanksgivings to come!
