Fall is officially here and one of my FAVORITE times of the year. I’m a wreath fanatic, so this year I thought I’d add a new wreath to the decor with this fun Fall Leaf Owl DIY wreath! My original idea was to cover the whole wreath in leaves, but after I got started with the first few against the straw, I thought it really looked pretty and festive with the straw wreath being the base for the design, so I decided less was more and went a different direction. This DIY wreath is simple to make!
Fall DIY wreath supplies:
- Artificial Leaves
- Straw Wreath Form
- Chicken Wire
- Owl
- Hot Glue
- Wire Cutters
- Yellow Paint
- Paint Brush
- Scissors
- Metallic Ribbon
Step 1. Start off your DIY wreath by unwrapping the plastic off your straw wreath form and start attaching leaves to it. You can do a few like I did, or add them all over depending on your tastes.
I didn’t want them to lie flat, so I just added a dab of hot glue in at the bottom in the center so they’d still stick up nicely.
Step 2. Once you have your leaves the way you wish, then you cut the chicken wire to fit the back of your DIY wreath. Use wire cutters and cut it just big enough to fill in your wreath.
Step 3. Use hot glue to secure your chicken wire onto the form. You’ll need to hold the wire in place while the glue dries for a few minutes.
Step 4. Once the glue has dried, you can then take your mini owl and glue it into place, as well. I attached mine with hot glue to the back of the chicken wire.
Step 5. The hard part is over!! Now you add some ribbon or other decor to the wreath if you so choose…I took a little bit of copper ribbon to add as an accent at the top.
Step 6. Finally, I used some mustard yellow paint and a paint brush and I painted on little polka dots directly onto the straw. This adds a little whimsy to the overall look of the DIY wreath.
Once dried, I hung up my DIY wreath and enjoyed my little fall creation!!
So there you go! A simple DIY wreath idea that anyone can do to get in the fall mood!
Personalize it any way you like…paint the leaves if it makes more sense or you need it to match other decor…the skies the limit! Hope you enjoy!
