It’s so easy to make your own DIY sunflower painted mason jar! With the right brushes and technique, you’ll find yourself painting sunflowers on any surface. Add in some fun fall foliage for the perfect accent to your autumn decor. You can even paint several and use them as a centerpiece on your table.
DIY Sunflower Painted Mason Jar Supplies:
- Darice Pint Mason Jars
- Acrylic Paint (in two shades of yellow and two shades of brown)
- White Spray Paint
- Fall Foliage
- Paintbrushes
Start by spray painting your jar white. Be sure that the jar is clean before painting. I like to use rubbing alcohol to clean the surface, allow to dry, then paint. Allow your paint to dry completely before continuing.
To make the main sunflower shape, you will need two primary brushes. The first is a round sponge pouncer brush and the second is a wide brush with a point that looks like it is in a petal shape. You can see the ones I used below.
Start with a lighter shade of brown and add a circle to the side of your jar with the large pouncer brush.
Play with your next brush on a piece of paper until you get good at petal shapes. Basically, you just need to fill the brush with paint and lay it down on its side.
Add petals with the brush all the way around your circle as shown below. Use the darker shade of yellow that you picked. You can actually do this while the paint from the circle is still wet.
While your petals are still wet, use a fine brush to add some accents to the petals. I added a bit of the lighter yellow as well as some of the lighter brown.
Just mix with the wet paint until you have a bit of an accent on each petal as shown below.
Now you can turn any of your brushes around and use the round end on the other side. Dip it in a darker shade of brown.
Then start adding dots all over the center of your flower as shown below.
Once you are happy with the look, set your DIY sunflower jar aside to dry completely.
Then just add in some fall foliage to complete your DIY sunflower mason jar and it is ready for display anywhere in your home!
