I live in a region where luminaries are expected for holiday decorating, and when I saw this fall twist on the idea I immediately wanted to make my own. The soft light from this pretty DIY paper mache pumpkin is perfect for mantle or fireplace decor, and a great addition to your fall decorating.
Inspired by these punched ceramic pumpkin luminaries from Pottery Barn, I used paper mache pumpkins by Darice to create my own versions.
DIY Paper Mache Pumpkin Luminary Supplies:
- Darice Paper Mache Pumpkins
- Darice Craft and Hobby Knife
- Accent Stencil
- Orange and Brown Paint
- Triple Thick Glaze
- Darice LED Light ( A tea light or light strand would both work)
Step 2. Use the craft knife to carefully cut out the design. I did not cut everything that I had traced because I realized that the paper mache would weaken too much. Modify your design as needed. I chose to cut a larger design in the center of the pumpkin, with smaller flourishes on either side.
I painted a second, larger pumpkin without cutting it to add to my decor. The colorful pumpkins look so pretty sitting next to my fireplace, and at night the glow from the DIY paper mache pumpkin luminary adds to the ambiance. Have fun crafting and creating for fall!
