Imagine Lionel Richie is walking up to you in a big cowl neck sweater. He’s carrying a hot chocolate and a basket full of pumpkins. He catches your eye and croons, “Hellloooo… is it me you’re looking for?!?” If you’ve caught on that Lionel is the personification of Fall, then yes, Lionel… I’ve been looking for you. And I’m so glad you’re here! This DIY fall home decor pallet sign is deceptively easy to make, even if you have terrible penmanship. You just need to be able to trace with a pencil, and have patience with a paintbrush.

I heavily shaded on the wrong side of the paper where all of the letters fell. This would act as a version of carbon paper when I traced the letters onto the board. (If you have a helper standing nearby, let them do this part… it’s good for a kiddo.)
After I had taped the paper to the board exactly where I wanted it, I traced the letters onto the sign by filling in all of the black font. Press heavily, as each pencil stroke you make will be transferred to the wood.
I definitely recommend a fine tipped paintbrush and well-shook paint. You don’t have much chance of a “do over” when it comes to unfinished wood.
Another festive way to decorate a fall mantle is with these fringe Fall DIY decor letters.
