PACE is a charity that provides girls and young women an opportunity for a better future through education, counseling, training and advocacy. There are a total of 18 PACE locations in Florida.
Judy Cutler, a Creative Strategist at Darice, has been involved with this life-enhancing program for 3 years by teaching creativity classes. These classes teach anything from sewing and jewelry making to floral design. Many of the projects they make to give away as a part of their community service. Because of Judy’s involvement, we found a fun opportunity to give back.
The PACE girls are involved in a variety of community service activities throughout the year. On January 31st, 50 girls participated in a project for patients at Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida.
So, how did we get involved? We donated an assortment of our sample puppet parts from the newest Sock Friends™ Puppet Creation Kits. What would normally get pushed aside as reject samples from product development were instead turned into the liveliest puppets we’ve ever seen.
Almost 50 PACE girls got together for one hour to create as many sock puppets as they could. The girls very quickly came to the conclusion that they could work better in teams to create these adorable sock puppet crafts. The results were so fabulous that the girls wanted to keep crafting! Each girl ended up filling a bag with additional sock puppet kits that they could create at home.
After crafting, the girls were rewarded by getting to see the smiling faces of the children in the hospital upon receiving their finished puppets. The patients were thrilled and the PACE girls were able to see first-hand how hard work pays off.
