Hawthorn Crochet Blanket Pattern

03.29.17 By Darice Leave a Comment

I am so excited to be here today sharing my latest crochet pattern with you all! My name is Alexis, and I share lots of craft ideas, crochet patterns, and free printables on my site, Persia Lou. Today, I want to share my new comfy, squishy afghan with you all. It combines a bold colorful edging with a pretty hawthorn fan stitch for a look that I just love. The hawthorn afghan pattern makes an easy crochet blanket that looks great draped over a sofa and is wonderful to cozy up under on a cool night too.

Easy-Crochet-Blanket-Pattern-Darice-1If you have never made a full-size afghan or throw blanket before, it can be a bit intimidating. I think this easy crochet blanket pattern is a great place to start. While it’s true that this is a larger project, it has a few features that make it work up a bit more quickly.

First off, it is made with All Things You acrylic and wool blend super bulky yarn, which is a soft and squishy bulky yarn that combines the beauty of wool with the ease of acrylic. I love using bulky yarns for afghans because thicker yarn and bigger hooks mean fewer stitches! Plus, they give you a nice and cozy chunky look that I love.

Easy-Crochet-Blanket-Pattern-Darice-2I also designed the blanket to be worked in rows rather than motifs so you won’t have a thousand tails to weave in at the end. Yay for fewer tails to weave in! I know you hear me on that! 😉

Easy Crochet Blanket Supplies:

  • All Things You Super Bulky Yarn (This is a Size 6 Super Bulky yarn. I used 10 balls of Pewter Light Gray, 4 balls of Spearmint Green, 2 balls of Merlot Red, 1 ball of Goldenrod, 1 ball of Fleece White or 18 balls in total.)
  • Darice Size N Crochet Hook (10.00 mm)
  • Darice Scissors
  • Yarn Needle

Finish off your easy crochet blanket by adding tassels along each end. To form the tassels, loop 8 lengths of green yarn through the edge and pull to tighten (see the image below). I spaced my tassels 4 stitches apart. Use scissors to trim up and even out the length of your tassels.
