I have a son, which means that I am constantly stepping on Legos, marbles, and all sorts of little things that my son loves to collect. I decided that he needed a home for all of his trinkets, so I customized a wood box for him so that he could have his own customized wood trinket storage box.
Personalized Trinket Storage Box Supplies:
- Darice Unfinished Hinged Wood Memory Box
- Darice Woodburning Tool
- Wood Stain (in desired color)
- Clean Cloths
Step 1. Cut a few small squares of sandpaper so it’s easier to sand your box. I used 150 grit sandpaper, which is fine for light sanding. Sand the entire box, inside and out, so that all areas of the box are smooth and ready to stain. Use one of the clean cloths to wipe off the excess wood dust from the inside and outside of the storage box.
Step 2. Plug in the woodburning tool. With a pencil, lightly write the name or words that you would like on the box. Use the woodburning tool with the writing tip to “write” over the name on the box, making sure to not touch the hot metal part of the tool. Unplug the tool.
Step 3. Open up the wood stain. The stain will have seperated, so be sure to stir using a Popsicle stick or wood stirrer. Dip a corner of the second clean cloth into the stain, and lightly apply stain to one section of the box. Wipe the area you just stained to remove the excess with another clean cloth. Repeat, one section at a time, until the entire box is stained, inside and out.
