Teddy Bear Mobile Tutorial

05.04.17 By Morena 1 Comment

This sweet teddy bear DIY mobile would make a great addition to any play room or nursery.  These adorable little bow tied bears can dance and watch over little ones as they play merrily.

Teddy Bear DIY Mobile Supplies:

  • Darice Mini Plush Teddy Bears
  • Darice 8 inch Round Basswood Plaque
  • Craft Paint:  Dark Brown and Beige
  • Darice Natural Color Hemp Twine
  • Wood Cut Bark Stencil
  • Craft Wire
  • Needle and Thread

Step 1.  Trace the round basswood plaque on a piece of paper and cut it out.  Fold the paper into fourths.  Now you have a template for placing holes in the wood.

Step 2.  Tape the paper to the front of the plaque and mark the center point with a sharp tool like an awl.  Mark 4 points at each of the folds in the paper as well, about 1 inch inside of the edge of the paper.

Step 3.  Use a drill to make holes in the plaque.  Use the guide marks from step two to place the holes in the plaque.

Step 4.  Paint the front and back of the plaque with light beige or off white paint.  Let it dry completely.

Step 5.  Place the wood grain stencil over the wood plaque.  Dab dark brown paint over the surface to make the wood pattern.  Paint the sides of the plaque as well, to create a faux bark edge.

Step 6.  I made a tiny hook from craft wire to “grab” the hemp twine.  Pull the twine through the holes that were drilled in step three, and tie a knot in the end to secure the twine strand in place.  Repeat for each of the holes.  In the center hole, tie the twine in a loop to hang the mobile from.

Step 7.  Determine how high or low you want the bear to hang, and cut the twine to the desired length.  Tie a knot at the end, and use a thread and needle to attach the knot to the top of the bear’s head.

Use the loop on the top to hang the teddy bear DIY mobile up.  I think the teddy bears look like they’re dancing as they sway in the air.  Have fun crafting and creating fun decor for kids!
