For some reason, I’ve been on a bit of a rustic kick when it comes to holiday decorating. The more battered wood and rust stains the better! The frame I wanted to use for this rustic bell DIY Christmas decor tutorial was a bit too clean so I had to get creative to make it look older. I’m super happy that the look matches perfectly with the beautiful rusted bells from Darice!
- Darice Picture Frame Wood Box.
- Rusted Jingle Bells (25 mm) – (You’ll need several packages).
- Antique White Paint.
- Cinnamon Brown Paint.
- Darice Hercules 2-Sided Sheet.
- Darice Artificial Pine Spray.
- Darice Decorative Ribbon.
- Darice Hot Glue Gun/Sticks.
Step 1. To begin your DIY Christmas decor project you will need to distress your frame box. In order to age the frame, you’re going to have to remove the glass and beat the frame with a hammer. I know this is kinda crazy but you want the frame to look like it has survived generations of holiday celebrations. A few hammers here and there, a couple scrapes, and you’ll be good to go!
Step 2. Once you’re happy with the level of distressing, water down the white paint just a bit and apply to the wood frame. Wipe off immediately with a towel. Repeat the process with the brown paint, making sure to leave some dark spots in the creases.
I absolutely love my new rustic bell DIY Christmas decor and plan on hanging it right next to my DIY vintage toy pick-up truck filled with pine cones and evergreen sprigs! Hope you enjoy this tutorial and have a great holiday season!
