What’s not to love with natural leather and natural wood? These wood beaded key rings are a simple DIY you can do for yourself or give as a trendy but useful gift.
I am always on the hunt for a practical but beautiful key chain. This is a perfect medium between the two with a natural and minimal feel.
Begin by cutting your leather. Depending on how many beads you’d like your final beaded key rings to have, that will determine the length of your your leather. I decided on 5 beads which meant I cut my leather cord about 20 inches. This was probably over kill! You likely only need about 1 foot. I always err on the side of too much when I craft. Always better to have too much than too little!
Thread your leather cord through the jump ring area of the key chain. By the way can we talk about how amazing these key chains are?! Don’t get me wrong, regular key rings have their place, but this is a perfect project for this particular style of key ring!
Thread each of your beads onto both cords at the same time. It will be a tight fit but that’s what you want. You don’t want them moving around too much and if your knot happens to come undone, you don’t want them sliding off.
Tie the two strings into a knot. If you’re worried about it slipping here you can always put a dab of hot glue on the knot and that will ensure it is secure. Truthfully, I’ve never had mine slip out! The leather is rough enough that the friction tends to hold it in place.
Then you are all finished! How fun is this natural wood look? I love the look of wood and leather. Plus, with wood beads you can always paint them or maybe even dye them (tutorial for THAT coming very soon here!) to give it a more personalized touch.

I don’t think style has to be sacrificed for price! I love creating DIYs that don’t look homemade and look deceptively expensive. Practical and Pretty began because I said ‘I could make that!’ so often that I decided to finally do it, and document my process.
