Easy Glittered DIY Pumpkin Decor

If there’s any craft weakness I have…it’s glitter. It’s messy to work with…and I always use way more than I need. But when I’m done I just feel happy. Sparkly things=happy crafter. So this little project combined two of my loves…sparkly, happy PUMPKINS! With this easy glittered DIY pumpkin idea, you can apply your own taste and personal preferences to this project, but the premise is pretty simple!!

DIY-pumpkin-display-Darice-1Glittered DIY Pumpkin Display Supplies:

  • Darice Paper Mache Pumpkins
  • Mod Podge & Foam Brush
  • Darice Extra Fine Glitter in Coffee Brown and Copper
  • Bronze Ribbon
  • Darice Baker’s Twine
  • Darice Suede Cord (optional)
  • Darice Hot Glue Gun and Glue

You will want to start by adding a thick layer of Mod Podge to about half of your pumpkin and then adding glitter to it. If you wait too long the Modge Podge will dry and the glitter won’t stick to the pumpkin. Apply glitter to the whole pumpkin and go back and touch up any bald spots.

DIY-pumpkin-display-Darice-4After the glitter is applied to the pumpkin, I went back over it again with another coat of Mod Podge. You don’t want glitter covering every surface it touches!

Don’t worry…the glitter actually stays put and doesn’t lose its shine. The Mod Podge dries clear and then you won’t have a glittery mess on your hands all the time!

I did both my pumpkins this way using copper and coffee brown glitter, then I added some strips of suede into the ridges of the DIY pumpkin using hot glue. After I got done gluing it into the ridges, I added simple bows on top using ribbon and twine.

I made an easy twine bow for the brown pumpkin by wrapping the twine around my hand, then tying it around the center.

I added the glitter pumpkins to the other pumpkins I already had in my home and they made the perfect DIY pumpkin vignette!
