Hello everyone, I have a cute and super fun Summer Camp tutorial for you today… A colorful wooden bug box craft. This project is so cool and I love that the kids can customize it with any colors they wish. This is a perfect project for kids of all ages! They can paint their bug boxes then go around together, explore and find bugs to learn about.
Colorful bug box craft supplies:
- Darice Unfinished Wood Bug Boxes
- Plastic Insects
- Studio 71 Paint Brushes
- Studio 71 Paint Trays
- Darice Craft Paint
Step 1. For this step really let the kids explore their creativity. I would make a couple example bug boxes and set them on the table for a little inspiration, but other then that let them have free range.
Using thin paint brushes really let’s them create the small details on their bug box craft. I have invested in nice brushes for my VBS kids, that have lasted years. Just leave cups of water on the tables for them to add their brushes to once they’re finished. Then you can have your camp helpers wash the brushes to keep them like new.
Make sure to have lots of fun color options for the kids to pick from.
Step 2. Now it’s time to make these little bugs bright and colorful! This is an optional step, but I think the kids would have a blast painting some bugs, especially if you have the time.
For this step I did a total of three coats, letting each coat dry 5 minutes.
Once you have all three coats painted, it’s time to add some details. They can get pretty creative with this step as well! You could even add some glitter paints to the tables.
Now these adorable bug I can handle!
Once they’re all finished you can take the kids around and start exploring for bugs!
See how many different bugs the kids can find outside.
