When we purchased our home I was so excited because we were getting a bonus room – a home office! I came up with this DIY office space with a neat pegboard shipping station! Having an organized and functional workspace can make all the difference with productivity!
If you’ve bought a home, you know what it’s like to have visions when you move in but then years later there are one or two rooms that don’t ever get finished. For me, it was the home office.
I co-own The Salvaged Boutique, a brick and mortar store, with my sister and I founded Savvy Shopkeeper – a resource for shop owners. When I started running two businesses, I found myself using the home office a lot and realized I wasn’t using the floor plan to its full potential.
Setting up your own DIY office space:
As the founder of Savvy Shopkeeper, part of my mission is to provide educational opportunities to shop owners. I contribute 5% of all online sales to the Savvy Support Fund and this includes physical products that I ship. This is when I realized I needed a shipping station!
If you’re an online shop owner – you need a place to keep shipping supplies and tools organized.
One day I was daydreaming about my dream DIY office space and I sketched out my vision for a double bookcase with base units with a countertop.
To my surprise, the next DAY, I received a message from a friend who offered to give me these two old shelving units! The timing could not have been more perfect.
I painted the shelving and base units in a crisp white.
Now I needed a countertop space and a butcher block counter was a perfect and affordable solution.
When I learned about Darice’s pegboard system I thought this would be perfect to keep additional shipping tools and supplies organized on the wall.
The pegboard pieces are all made with natural wood. So I stained each piece and used painter’s tape with Martha Stewart’s metallic liquid gilding paints.
These pegboard pieces are lightweight so I used Command Velcro Wall hanging strips to hang each item on the wall.
With pegboards, it’s nice having the ability to move each shelving unit or accessory around to fit my needs.
It’s so nice to have more storage, more shelving, and more importantly, a designated space for shipping in my DIY office space!
How have you used Darice’s pegboard system? Comment below and tell me about it – I’d love to know!
