Make Your Own New Year DIY Party Hats

New Year’s Eve is the perfect time for getting a little fancy and having a lot of fun. To celebrate in style, some kind of sparkly headgear is a definite must. I’ve put together a New Year DIY party hat idea that is simple to make with just a few supplies. Make one for yourself or a whole bunch for all of your party guests.

New-Year-DIY-Party-Hat-Darice-1New Year DIY Party Hat Supplies:

  • David Tutera Die Cut Accents.
  • Core’dinations Party Mixers Rosette Garland.
  • Darice Black Feathers.
  • Darice 10 mm Plastic Headband.
  • Gold Arabic Clock Numerals. (Or number stickers)
  • Scissors.
  • Darice Hot Glue Gun.

New-Year-DIY-Party-Hat-Darice-2Step 1. To begin your New Year DIY party hat tutorial you will form the party hat cone.

The David Tutera Die Cut Accents have a beautiful Art Deco design and are designed to wrap around votives as sparkly tabletop decorations. I wanted to try them as the party hat base and I love their delicate look.

To get a nice sturdy cone shape for your New Year DIY party hats, you need to cut on the outside edges of the die cut. Cut a piece of the die cut paper to match the shape above – one shell on the top, four down each side, and six shells on the curve along the bottom. Once you have the shape cut out correctly, roll the cone up and use a line of hot glue to hold it in place.

Step 2.  Attach to headband.

Use a couple of drops of hot glue to attach the mini New Year DIY party hat to the headband. You will have to hold it in place until the glue sets.

Start by attaching one of the rosettes from the rosette garland slightly off center on the front of the party hat. (Don’t forget the die cut material is full of holes, so the hot glue can leak through and burn your fingers if you aren’t careful!)

Next add a black feather behind the rosette. Place a drop of glue on the end of the feather and stick and hold it behind the rosette until it dries.
