We Celebrate National Craft Month by Sharing Why We Love to Craft:
Why do I love crafting? My feelings are more eloquently summed up by this quote by Thomas S. Monson: “God left the world unfinished for man to work his skill upon. He left the electricity in the cloud, the oil in the earth. He left the rivers unbridged and the forests unfelled and the cities unbuilt. God gives to man the challenge of raw materials, not the ease of finished things. He leaves the pictures unpainted and the music unsung and the problems unsolved, that man might know the joys and glories of creation.”
I love to create things. I think we are all born with the desire to create. I also have a large family and a limited budget. I enjoy taking things, whether it be simple cardstock, thrifted furniture, or unloved knick knacks and re-purposing them into something beautiful. I got lucky, and turned this hobby into a little side job. I get to do what I love in the comfort of my own home (in my pajama pants) (between loads of laundry), and make a little money doing it. I don’t think it gets better than that!

I love crafting because it allows me to be tap into whatever creative thought I have lurking in my brain at the time. My children are often right next to me at the table, glue and scissors firmly clutched in their little hands. I love that they get to experiment with various materials and ideas and art through their crafting. I think that the process of imagining how something could be, and then seeing it through to fruition – sometimes even better than you imagined it – is a very rewarding experience. And, let’s face it, the craft fails keep me humble. Glue guns can’t fix everything!

I love crafting because of the connections it creates. Crafts bring us together, and they provide links to our past as well of pieces of ourselves we leave behind long after our time here has passed. My father was a craftsman and hobbyist, and I treasure the things he made. I know that every detail of each handmade item…from the design to the colors used…were chosen by him. Handcrafted items are infused with thoughtfulness and love, which makes them that much more special to me. I hope that my own children will fondly remember the time we spend crafting together, and that all the little projects I have made for them will remind them not only of my quirky sense of humor and penchant for bright colors, but also of my love for them.

Why I love crafting – You see that smile on that little boy in my picture? He’s the reason I love crafting. He is my partner in crime and probably biggest supporter of them all. Whenever I see his face light up when we finish a craft together and he instantly knows to put it on our artwork display wall to show it off – I get a warm feeling rush over me and I just know I’m right where I’m suppose to be. Although I’ve always been that crafty gal from a young age, I’m happy to wear the crafty mom title now and I really enjoy inspiring little minds, like my little boy, to be artistic too! I just hope it’s something we can always do together from here on out and that our little craft journey on my blog inspires others to do the same!

The art of creating has always amazed me. Whenever you make something, you’re creating something that is totally unique to you — and only you. Even if we all made the same project, everyone’s version would be slightly different. I love the endless possibilities that come with crafts, DIY, and anything that requires creativity. It’s the best form of self-expression. Nothing makes me happier than creating something completely from scratch, whether it’s for myself or for a friend’s wedding.

I LOVE the maker movement. I have been crafting and making handmade gifts for friends ever since I was little. I have always believed a handmade gift is far more appreciated and cherished than something bought at a store. I always try to make something before I buy it. On my blog I am passionate about paper crafting and parties. I love celebrations! I started making my own party supplies and decor when my kids were young and I could never find affordable decorations. It has always seemed crazy to me to spend hundreds of dollars just to decorate a party! On my blog you will find hundreds of affordable home decor, paper crafting, and party ideas I know you will love!

I’ve loved crafting since I was a little kid but my appreciation of it has increased drastically since having children of my own. Kids are already drawn to all things glitter and glue but having them grow up with an appreciation for items made by hand…priceless! Some of my favorite memories have been while we’re crafting, creating in harmony side by side. I hope for many more wonderful memories to be made while crafting!
