Have you ever seen those overpriced hair bows in boutiques and kids stores and wished that you could make your own? Hair bows are actually pretty easy to make and are inexpensive as well! Today I’m going to show you how to make a hair bow that is perfect to wear on the first day of school.
- Darice Silver Hair Clips
- Darice Red Mini Apples
- Darice White Grosgrain 3/8″ Ribbon
- Red Ribbon w/ White Polka Dots
- Black Chalkboard Letters Ribbon
- Glue Gun
How to make a hair bow:
Step 1. First you will need to line your hair clip with ribbon. To do this, place a piece of grosgrain ribbon inside the clip with the flat side down. Add a line of hot glue to the top section of the clip, and carefully press down on the ribbon.
Step 2. Cut an 18″ piece of the red ribbon with white dots. Lay the entire piece pattern side down, then bring the two ends to the middle of the ribbon so the pattern is right side up. Apply some hot glue to one of the ends and press down on the other end, sealing the two ends together.
Step 3. Move the ribbon a bit so that it makes a figure eight like in the photo below.
Step 6. Cut another small piece of the same red ribbon, and fold both the cut sides over and glue to the back of the small piece of ribbon. Now glue the small piece of ribbon to the middle of the bow to cover up the string.
Step 7. Cut a piece of the chalkboard ABC ribbon, and tie a knot in the middle of the piece. Cut the edges to make a V like in the below photo so that the ends are just slightly smaller than the red bow when placed in the middle of the bow.
Step 9. Hot glue a small apple miniature onto the middle of the knot on the black ribbon. Hot glue the hair clip to the back of the bow so that the flat side is against the bow and the curved side is showing.
Isn’t it adorable?
