My girls love chalk. I know this because I find random messages from them on the chalkboard in my kitchen all the time! I decided it was time that they had their own to draw on so I created this easy glitter DIY chalkboard project. Now they can doodle and draw to their hearts content!
This DIY chalkboard project is a simple one (my favorite kind) but there is some dry time involved so keep that in mind if you are making this project as a gift.
Glitter DIY Chalkboard Supplies:
- Darice 7 x 10 inch Chalkboards
- Darice Glitter
- Martha Stewart Decoupage Gloss Finish
- Craft Paint (I used white and pink)
- Darice Foam Brush
- Painter’s Tape
Step One. Using your paint brush, paint the wood frame of your chalkboard. Give it 2 coats but allow to dry in between. Be sure to use painter’s tape (or washi tape) to tape off the chalkboard before you do this.
Step Two. Grab a paper plate or a container you don’t mind being used for this project and combine glitter and decoupage. Using another paint brush, apply a coat of the glitter/decoupage mixture and “paint” right over the painted wood on the chalkboard. (Alternate application: Cover the painted frame in a coat of decoupage and sprinkle glitter over it to cover the entire surface. See blue chalkboard in photos.)
Step Three. Once your decoupage and glitter is dry, apply another coat of just decoupage. You especially need to do this if you are using the alternate option as mentioned in step 2. Allow to dry overnight.
