Hello everyone, today I’ sharing a new wall art project I just finished for fall. A painted DIY pumpkin art canvas! I will show you an easy way to create a hand painted look using a stencil.
What I love most about this project is how the pumpkin really POPS against that black canvas. Black canvas projects are popping up all over the place now. I think we are going to be seeing a lot of black canvas wall art pieces, especially around the holidays.
Painted DIY pumpkin art Supplies:
Step 1. Since it’s Fall I really wanted to go with a pumpkin for this project. I found this stencil on the Silhouette library, #274516. I sized it to fit the size of my canvas 9×12. Then I cut it on blade setting 3.
Step 2. After I cut my stencil, I used my “handy dandy” weeding tool to weed my stencil. Now I have the perfect stencil for this project.
Step 3. Next, I added the stencil to my canvas using transfer tape. Make sure to smooth is out with either a credit card or scraper tool.
Step 4. Now let’s pick our paint colors!
Since my home is more coastal, I like to combine my coastal style with my Fall decor. So I wanted to go with a light colored pumpkin. I used a Premium Acrylic Paint for this project.
Step 5. Finally it’s time to start painting. I really wanted this project to feel like it was hand painted so I used various shades of green for the leaves to create that effect.
For the pumpkin I used a titan buff, titanium white, warm grey and carbon black. I think with all the shading this pumpkin turned out perfect!
This was my first time attempting a project like this, so I really didn’t have a painting strategy. I just added my titan buff paint first, then I started shading with different colors. I tried to let some of the black from the canvas show through.
Step 7. Now it’s time to remove the vinyl and see your DIY pumpkin art creation! I didn’t wait for the paint to dry, I pulled the vinyl off immediately.
Creating a stencil is a great option with a project like this, especially if you don’t know how to draw or paint like me.
As always, thanks for stopping by. I hope this DIY pumpkin art inspires you to try it yourself.
