Simple Embroidery Hoop Sentiment Wall Hanging

Have you ever heard or read a quirky saying that you just can’t get out of your head?  Well, I was having one of those days and this quirky sentiment went right along with my mood.  So, I pushed all my “important” work aside and made this quick and easy embroidery hoop wall hanging to let everyone know…. I don’t feel like adulting today!!!

Easy embroidery hoop supplies:

  • 8” Darice Embroidery Hoop
  • Darice Embroidery Floss
  • Needle
  • Darice Marble Fat Quarter
  • White Felt Sheet
  • Disappearing Fabric Marker
  • Scissors

Place your fat quarter print side down.  Loosen screw on embroidery hoop to separate the two hoops.  Place the inner hoop on the fat quarter with a sheet of felt placed inbetween.

Carefully turn the inner hoop, felt and fat quarter over.  Place the outer hoop over the layers and start to tighten the screw.  As you are tightening the screw, pull the outer edges to make the fabric taut.

Using the fabric marker with disappearing ink, write your sentiment on the fabric.

Make your stitches approximately ¼ inch long.  To make a stitch, start with a piece of embroidery floss 18” long.  Thread your needle through on end and tie a knot on the opposite end.  Bring the needle up from the backside of the fabric.

Place the needle back down into the fabric, pulling the needle through from the backside.

Don’t pull your stitches too tight or the fabric will have puckers in it.  Repeat this process following the lines of the sentiment that you wrote.

Use multiple colors of floss and fonts to add quirkiness to your sentiment.

Trim the excess felt and fabric, leaving approximately a 2” wide band of fabric around the hoop.

Sew a running stitch (just a needle in and out) around the edge of the fabric.

Hold on to the tail and needle end of the floss and gather the fabric into the center, then tie the floss ends together.

Clip off any stray tails of floss threads.

Are you ready to put your mood into stitches? What would your embroidery say?
