With the holiday season in full force, it’s time to hustle with those last-minute gift ideas. Thankfully, you can never go wrong with a bottle of wine. And if you’re anything like me, wrapping up presents is half the fun. That’s where this posh faux fur DIY wine bag gift comes in. This year, you can swap out the paper gift bag and opt for a luxurious homemade option. Basically, it’s like two gifts in one! Here’s how to make it.
FAUX FUR DIY WINE BAG GIFT SUPPLIES NEEDED:
- Darice Luxury Craft Fur (12 x 15 inches, Black)*.
- Darice Craft Scissors.
- Straight Pins.
- Thread and Sewing Needle
- Darice Hot Glue Gun.
- Darice Jewelry Designer® Statement Pendant (Layered Pastel Rhinestone)*.
- Darice Jewelry Designer® Polyester Fashion Twisted Cord (Silver)*.
*When it comes to color and style, Darice offers several alternatives for faux fur, pendants, and twisted cord. For my DIY wine bag, I used black faux fur with a pastel pendant and silver cord. Feel free to use whatever combination of materials that fits the recipient’s taste. That’s the beauty of DIY!
Step 1. To begin your DIY wine bag, lay the faux fur on a flat surface, wrong side up. Place the cord 2 inches from the top edge.
Step 2. Fold the faux fur over the cord. Pin in place.
Step 3. Hot glue the edge of the faux fur. This will create a “tube” for the cord to sit in. Take care to apply the hot glue far enough from the cord. Otherwise, the cord will adhere to the faux fur and won’t be able to move.
Step 4. Fold the faux fur in half, from left to right. Hot glue along the long side, starting just under the top fold.
Step 5. Hand sew a whip stitch down the long side. This will add extra security to the DIY wine bag.
Step 6. Re-position the fur bag so that the side fold lays along the front.
Step 7. Hot glue the bottom shut. You can also whip stitch along the bottom, if you’d like.
Step 8. Hand-stitch the pendant to the center of the gift bag, right under the cord.
Step 9. Slip in a bottle of your favorite red, tie it up, and you’re ready to deliver an awesome gift.
The best part about this project is that the recipient can re-use the DIY wine bag to store other items (or more wine bottles). Wine bottle gifts also make great wedding and anniversary presents, check out this idea for a DIY wedding gift wine box.
Happy holidays!
