Hello there, I hope you’re enjoying the holiday season! We’re approaching the pinnacle of party season… New Year’s Eve! Do you have a party planned or planning to go to one? This simple bread board DIY menu chalkboard is perfect to label your signature drink or mysterious appetizer. And of course “Cheers” doesn’t just apply to NYE, so this chalkboard menu will last you through the whole year.
Now, let’s make you one! These are so easy to make you could also make them in bulk so that you have one to grab on your way out the door as a hostess gift.
DIY Menu Chalkboard Supplies:
- Darice MDF Bread Board
- Painter’s Tape
- Chalkboard Paint
- Dazzling Metallics Paint in Glorious Gold
- Darice Foam Brush
- Electronic Cutting machine
- Black adhesive vinyl
- Cricut Transfer Tape
Section off about the top quarter of the bread board with painter’s tape. Using a foam brush, paint the top with 2 coats of gold metallic paint. After the 2nd coat, immediately peel off the painter’s tape. Allow to dry for at least 2 hours.
Apply painter’s tape on the top portion of the bread board so that the bottom of the tape is lined up with the bottom edge of the metallic paint. Apply 4 coats of chalkboard paint (the first layer is mostly absorbed by the MDF) alternating between horizontal and vertical application coats.
If you have beautiful hand lettering, congratulations and I’m jealous. You can paint the “Cheers” onto the top of the chalkboard menu if you’d like. I do not have beautiful lettering so I like to cheat and use my Cricut to do the lettering for me. Here is the cut file, feel free to use it and cheat along with me. 😉 I cut the “Cheers” out of black vinyl and attached it to the board with transfer tape.
