Wooden DIY Nautical Fish Decor

I LOVE working on nautical inspired crafts for the house. So I was really excited to get started on a new project. I found these wooden fish on the Darice website and I knew exactly what I wanted to do with them.  I had to give them a nautical makeover for the house. But I also think this nautical DIY fish decor would make a great kids craft as well. Follow along as I show you how easy it is to make your own fish trio!

DIY Fish Decor Supplies:

  • Craft Paint (in your choice of colors)
  • Darice Flexible Wood Fish
  • Darice Paint Brush
  • Darice Jute Cord
  • Darice Gold Screw Eye Hooks

Step 1 – Paint First Coat.

Before I painted the wood fish, I decided to remove the top and bottom part of the fish with an X-Acto knife.

Then I painted the front and back of the fish with two coats of white paint.  Let each coat dry for 10 minutes.

Step 2 – Paint your Design.

Now let’s add our second color!  I picked out some of my favorite colors for this step.  You can get as creative as you want with this step.

I decided to paint the gills only for this DIY fish decor project.

Step 3 – Add Screw Eye Hooks.

Finally it’s time to add our hooks so we can hang our fish up!  I used some small screw eye hooks for this step.

The jute cord is perfect to hang the fish up and still gives it a nautical feel.

I think my fish trio all turned out super cute and were so easy to make.  Like I said this could be a kids or even an adult craft, totally up to you! These fish would be great for any nautical themed room. I could totally see them in a nautical themed baby’s room!
